By Tom Gifford Knowing how to exercise to build muscle and burn fat is easier said than done. Most people who try to exercise to build muscle and burn fat are making some major mistakes that are preventing them from being able to burn fat and look sexy! This article will show you some of the major mistakes people are making when trying to build muscle and burn fat. EXERCISE TO BUILD MUSCLE AND BURN FAT MISTAKES Mistake #1: Long “same speed” cardio routines This is one of the most common mistakes I see in people who try to burn fat with exercise. Long boring cardio routines at the same speed do not help to build muscle or burn fat! In fact, if you do this type of workout for 30-60 minutes, you might even lose muscle mass. This happens because long cardio routines do not stimulate your body to build muscle like strength training does. It is primarily aerobic, and aerobic exercise performed in this way can actually cause you to lose muscle mass and decrease your metabolism! On top of that, your body will adapt to this type of exercise very quickly. This means that after a few exposures, you have to workout longer and harder to keep your body challenged! Long boring cardio routines are not an adequate way to build muscle or burn fat with exercise. You might burn calories doing it, but it will not have an impact on your metabolism. SOLUTION: Interval training! Interval training is a great way to exercise to build muscle and burn fat because it involves using high and low intensities. For example, you might go 2 minutes slow and then 1 minute fast. If you use this 2-1 minute format for 3-6 rounds in 1 workout, you will definitely feel it! The intense minutes are a great way to burn fat and build muscle because it causes your metabolism to increase. This helps you burn lots of fat after you are done with your exercise! Remember, you want to see a doctor before beginning any kind of exercise program to burn fat and build muscle. Mistake #2: Only using the strength training machines This is also a very common mistake when trying to burn fat with strength training. Most people try to build muscle by getting on a strength training machine after they do a long boring cardio workout, and then do 15 reps. The problem with using strength training machines to burn fat and build muscle is that it is very easy to not work very hard while always sitting down! SOLUTION: Using other modalities such as bodyweight exercises, dumbbells, stability balls and medicine balls as tools to exercise to burn fat and build muscle. These are great ways to exercise to burn fat and build muscle because you use a lot more muscle when doing so. The more muscle you use, the more fat you burn, and the more you increase your metabolism! CONCLUSION If you are trying to exercise to burn fat and build muscle by doing long boring cardio routines followed by the strength training machines, you probably arent getting the results you want. Try using interval training and the other strength training modalities described in this article as a new way to exercise!
